"A province wide group offering help and support to those with liver disease and their supporters"
Charity Number - XR-48308
Frankie Duffy of Moy, Co Tyrone had a liver transplant in King's College Hospital London in July 1995. Being away from home, it was a very anxious time for his wife Kay, their children, family and friends and it was Kay's dearest wish that if her husband made a good recovery she would pursue the possibility of establishing a much-needed support group.
During their stay in King's, Kay raised the issue with a transplant co-ordinator who gave her every encouragement.
Frankie did make an excellent recovery! Kay set about realising her ambition. She was encouraged at every step of the way by her family and friends. So in January 1998 the RVH Liver Support Group was 'born' with an initial membership of 73 members - people, of all ages, from Northern Ireland who suffered from liver disease of one type or another.
From these inspirational beginnings the Group rapidly developed and became a Registered Charity (No XR 48308) in March 2001. We are also affiliated to the British Liver Trust. The Group has been very successful in raising much needed funds over the years to help patients and assist with provision of medical equipment.
